Greenwood 52 Cut Chronic Absenteeism to 7.8%

Greenwood 52^↗ reported 114 chronically absent students among 1,468 enrolled in 2024-25. Its published chronic-absenteeism rate was 7.8%.

One year earlier, the district reported 218 chronically absent students among 1,562 enrolled, a rate of 14.0%. That makes the latest change a decline of 104 students and 6.2 percentage points.

South Carolina's published rate was 22.3% in 2024-25. Greenwood 52's rate was 14.5 percentage points lower.

The latest rate is also below the district's 2021-22 baseline

Greenwood 52 began the four-year package panel at 12.8% in 2021-22. Its 2024-25 rate was 5.0 points below that starting value.

The path was not a straight decline. The chart shows the district rising in 2022-23, easing in 2023-24 and then posting its largest drop in the latest year. The attendance file establishes the change, but it does not identify what caused it.

Each group in the comparison was below its statewide rate

The attendance file reports 958 economically disadvantaged students in Greenwood 52, or 65.3% of the district's published total enrollment. Their chronic-absenteeism rate was 10.5%, compared with 28.5% statewide.

These comparisons cover four groups published in the state file. They do not show which district practices, family circumstances or other factors produced the gaps.

Three of four schools reached four-year lows

Three of Greenwood 52's four schools recorded their lowest chronic-absenteeism rate in the four-year panel in 2024-25.

Ninety Six High moved from 24.1% in 2021-22 to 18.0% in 2023-24 and 7.5% in 2024-25. Edgewood Middle moved from 14.8% to 8.6% in the latest year, while Ninety Six Elementary moved from 12.2% to 8.1%.

Ninety Six Primary was the exception. Its rate was 6.8% in both 2023-24 and 2024-25, above its 2.8% panel low in 2021-22.

The school results show that the latest district decline extended across most campuses. Four years of published rates are still a short panel, and the data do not establish whether the improvement will persist.
